"with a super guide like Daniel, the trip was memorable. He entertained the group by providing lots of stories about his experiences that void the long hours and drive to the arctic. you could tell how anxious he is to make this trip worth the money we all paid for. Definitely 5 star. Thanks Daniel."

How to read the table
Length matters more than it looks. The BLM’s planning figure is five hours of driving each way to the Arctic Circle under good conditions, so a 12-hour tour has little slack for stops, while a 16-hour drive spends longer at each one. The aurora tours run longest because they wait for darkness on the way back. The Arctic Circle Aurora Drive Adventure ends with an aurora watch at Joy and runs 17 to 18 hours.
Pickup splits the field in two. Alaska Wild Lights, 1st Alaska Tours, Midnight Sky Adventures, Alaska Arctic Expeditions and Arctic Night Tours collect you from your Fairbanks hotel. Northern Alaska Tour Company runs every one of its tours from its office on the East Ramp of Fairbanks airport, with a parking fee at check-in, so you need your own way there. Its Original Arctic Circle Drive checks in between 5:45 and 6:00 a.m.
Free cancellation is not universal. All four Northern Alaska Tour Company listings are all sales final, and the two Alaska Wild Lights tours refund in full only up to 7 days before, which matters for a trip that can be called off for weather or road conditions (the operators then offer another date or a refund). The GetYourGuide tours and three of the smaller Viator operators allow free cancellation.
Season decides half the list for you. The Arctic Circle Adventure is a summer-season tour with no departures before May 15, 2027. The Arctic Circle Winter Drive Adventure is a winter day trip, and its operator says plainly that it is not an aurora tour and does not stay out late waiting for one. Aurora combos only make sense in the aurora season, August 21 to April 21.
The same trip on two networks
Several of these tours are sold on both Viator and GetYourGuide. The operator, the van and the route are the same; only the booking platform, the price shown, the review count and sometimes the cancellation terms differ. We list each trip once and name its twin here:
- The Northern Lights & Arctic Circle Tour on Viator is the same trip as Fairbanks: Northern Lights & Arctic Circle Tour on GetYourGuide (from $363, 4.4 from 135 reviews).
- The Arctic Circle Day Tour on Viator is the same trip as Fairbanks: Arctic Circle Day Tour with Guide on GetYourGuide (from $335, 4.6 from 5 reviews).
- The Arctic Circle Northern Lights Full-Day Trip on GetYourGuide is the same trip as Northern Lights and Arctic Circle Trip from Fairbanks on Viator (from $330, 4.6 from 183 reviews).
- The Arctic Circle Adventure on GetYourGuide is the same trip as Arctic Circle Full-Day Adventure from Fairbanks on Viator (from $260, 4.6 from 139 reviews).
- The Arctic Circle & Northern Lights – Dalton Highway Tour on GetYourGuide is the same trip as Arctic Circle and Northern Lights Dalton Highway Tour on Viator (from $399, 5.0 from 29 reviews).
Compare the terms before you book. The 1st Alaska Tours aurora trip has free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead on GetYourGuide, while its Viator twin is sold as final. The Midnight Sky Adventures trip is $20 cheaper on GetYourGuide. The two review scores of a pair describe one trip.
Which one fits your trip
For most winter visitors the Northern Lights & Arctic Circle Tour is the safe choice, with the most reviews in our catalogue and eight-guest vans (our review). If you would rather book on GetYourGuide with free cancellation, the trip featured on this page, the Arctic Circle Northern Lights Full-Day Trip, covers the same ground and adds an aurora certificate (our review). For the road itself, Northern Alaska Tour Company’s Original Arctic Circle Drive gives the Dalton Highway a full 16-hour day.
The three closest aurora combos are compared row by row in the table below this article. For a goal-by-goal answer, use our which tour should I book page. The Arctic Circle northern lights tours and Arctic Circle day tours pages go deeper on each family, and how long is an Arctic Circle tour explains where the hours go. What Arctic Circle Northern Lights Guests Say
Ratings and review counts are each platform's live figures (Viator or GetYourGuide) as of October 2026 and may shift slightly day to day.
"Daniel was our guide and he made sure we were all informed every mile of the way. He is very passionate about that stretch of highway. We enjoyed everything about the trip. Totally recommend anyone who wants to check going to the arctic circle of the bucket list to book a trip with them."
"We had an incredible experience on the Arctic Circle tour with 1st Alaska Tours! Our guide, Paul, was hands down the best guide ever. His passion for Alaska and the Northern Lights is infectious, and his deep knowledge of history and the local landscape made the 13+ hour journey fly by. It was amazing to watch the scenery shift from forest to tundra. We were even lucky enough to see the northern lights dance with streaks of pink! Paul knew all the best stops and shared so many great stories. Highly recommend!"

"wonderful tour with Tanner. Great driver and guide. only complaint is that the bus was extremely cold and my feet and sister's feet froze to the point it was painful."
"Although the trip was long, it was a great experience with nice photoesque scenery and Tanner kept the passengers interest in mind. Tanner was a great driver and guide."
"TL;DR: Paul is the GOAT, take this tour! Our guide Paul made all the difference! What a funny, knowledgable guy - more than just about his tour material! He made sure we were well-fed, well-entertained, and got us some amazing aurora viewing - even at the Arctic Circle itself! We all felt safe with Paul behind the wheel, and honestly, I have never seen a group of people cheer more for flushing toilets (iykyk). My only complaint is that the bus was VERY cold, but I know that's not a normal occurrence."

"Our tour guide was Paul, and he was very informative and friendly. He helped us take photos and made sure we stayed safe during the freezing night. Although it was a long trip, I truly appreciated his efforts to find the best locations to see the amazing aurora borealis."

"our driver and tour guide did an excellent job. he did a long drive and talk a lot during the trip. it's not an easy job for sure. Unfortunately, we didn't see the northern lights. However, a couple who stayed at the same hotel where I stayed at did see the northern lights around at 1100ish pm."

Arctic Circle Tours from Fairbanks: Questions Answered
Tour types, prices, twins on two networks and what each trip includes.
We compare twelve guided Arctic Circle tours from Fairbanks, run by seven operators. Five of them are also sold on the other booking network, so you will see the same trip listed on both Viator and GetYourGuide. They divide into daytime drives that return in the evening and aurora combos that come back in the small hours, and all of them drive the Dalton Highway to the Arctic Circle sign.
Prices on the tours we compare start from $260 per person for the summer-season Arctic Circle Adventure and reach $379 per person for the six-guest Arctic Circle & Northern Lights Dalton Highway Tour on GetYourGuide. Most daytime drives sit between $269 and $335, and most aurora combos between $329 and $369. Prices are per person, with adult pricing for every age on several listings.
It is Northern Alaska Tour Company's 16-hour daytime drive from its office on the East Ramp of Fairbanks airport. It visits the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, the Arctic Circle Trading Post, the Yukon River and the Arctic Circle, where you receive an Official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate. Food and hotel pickup are not included. Read our review.
It is Northern Alaska Tour Company's winter aurora combo: a 17 to 18 hour day with check-in at 9:00 a.m., the drive to the Arctic Circle and an aurora watch at Joy on the Elliott Highway before the return to Fairbanks. It is the longest tour we compare and from $369 per person. Hotel pickup and food are not included. See our review.
Yes. Northern Alaska Tour Company runs the Midnight Sun Arctic Circle Drive Adventure, a 16-hour summer drive from $269 per person with check-in at 9:00 a.m. Keep the name in proportion: at the Arctic Circle the sun stays up all night only on and around June 21, although summer days are very long. Our summer tours page covers the season.
Northern Alaska Tour Company sells fly/drive trips that fly one way to Coldfoot and drive back down the Dalton Highway. Its summer Midnight Sun Fly/Drive leaves at 1:00 p.m. and lasts about 12 hours, and its Aurora Fly/Drive runs about 14.5 hours with an aurora stop at Joy. They cost far more than the ground tours and are not among the tours we compare here.
Yes. Northern Alaska Tour Company's Arctic Circle Air Adventure is a flight of about five hours in total to Coldfoot with a ground guide, with summer departures at 7 a.m. or 7 p.m. Coldfoot is 60 miles north of the Arctic Circle sign. Ground tours are the cheaper way to cross the line, and our which tour should I book page helps you choose one.
Yes, though none of the twelve on this page are overnight. Northern Alaska Tour Company offers a two-day Fly/Drive Northbound with a night in Coldfoot, winter Arctic Circle Aurora Overnight Adventures to Coldfoot, and a three-day Arctic Ocean trip to Deadhorse. Every tour in our comparison returns to Fairbanks the same night or in the early hours of the next morning.
Several operators sell one trip on both networks. The van, the guide and the route are identical; the price shown, the review count and sometimes the cancellation terms differ. The 1st Alaska Tours aurora trip, for example, has free cancellation on GetYourGuide but is sold as final on Viator. We list each trip once and name its twin in the article above.
Only a few. The 1st Alaska Tours aurora trip includes sandwiches, chips, sweets and hot drinks, Midnight Sky Adventures includes snacks and hot drinks, the Arctic Circle Day Tour includes snacks and water, and the Northern Lights & Arctic Circle Tour includes tea and coffee. Meals are otherwise bought along the way, usually at Yukon River Camp. Northern Alaska Tour Company includes no food.
It is Alaska Arctic Expeditions' 12-hour daytime tour from $300 per person, one of the shorter options. It photographs the Yukon River and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, includes an Arctic Circle certificate and on-board Wi-Fi, and in winter may catch the aurora on the drive back. Meals are not included and Viator offers free cancellation. Read our review.
